HSBBB: Dolphins take down Georgia power in opener

Hilton Head Prep’s boys tipped off their season Monday with a thrilling 49-48 overtime win over Long County (Ga.) at Calvary Day in Savannah.

Newcomer JJ Hayes sparkled in his debut for the Dolphins with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Ryan Mikell added 14 points while adding two steals and taking two charges to lead a solid defensive effort against an athletic Blue Tide squad that was 25-5 last season and won GHSA Region 2-3A before reaching the third round of the state playoffs.

Bluffton transfer Jayden Chance had eight points and seven assists in his HHP debut, and Kane Eanes contributed seven points, five rebounds, and two steals for the Dolphins. Luke Foley pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

HHP (1-0) plays the host Cavaliers at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
