Hilton Head Prep’s playoff run ended short of a state title for just the second time in the past nine years, but the Dolphins still boasted four players on the all-region girls tennis team, including the Player of the Year.
HHP junior Avery Brothers was named the region’s Player of the Year after leading the Dolphins to a perfect 8-0 mark in region play. The Dolphins were denied in their bid for an eighth state title in nine years when they lost to eventual champion Ashley Hall in the SCISA Class 3A semifinals.
Brothers was joined on the all-region squad by teammates Sami Heginbottom, Lizzie Lofye, and Emma Moore. Heginbottom is the only senior among the quartet, while the others are juniors.
SCISA 2A semifinalist Hilton Head Christian Academy placed three players on the all-region team, as junior Catherine Drozd was joined by seventh-grader Caitlyn Jackson and sixth-grader Shields McClure. John Paul II’s Trice McClure and Colleton Prep’s Rihanna Bailey and Becca Martin also made the team.
