HSVB: Sharks finish season sweep of rival Bobcats

May River volleyball completed a sweep of the Hometown Showdown for 2020, taking down rival Bluffton in three sets on the road Thursday.

The Sharks held off strong challenges from the Bobcats in two of the three sets to claim a 25-22, 25-9, 25-21 victory.

Brigit Hegan had her best night in a Shark uniform with nine kills and four blocks, Addison Black followed suit with eight kills, and Lillian Long added five kills and three aces. Abby Puplava served five aces and had a team-high 20 digs for May River. 

Marissa Majorkiewicz led the Bobcats with eight kills, followed by Anna Elder and Jalynn Ferguson with four kills each. Faith Paxton led the defense with 15 digs.

May River (8-1, 7-1 Region 7-4A) will play host to Lucy Beckham in what should be a competitive match at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Bobcats host Beaufort High for a region contest Tuesday.
