HSFB: Warriors stun Bobcats at buzzer to remain unbeaten

It must have been a raucous ride back to Seabrook on Friday night, after Jaylen Reeves connected with Jakhi Pusha for a 41-yard touchdown on the final play of the game to lift Whale Branch to a 21-20 victory at Baptist Hill to take over the top spot in Region 7-1A.

Pusha’s only catch of the night clinched a thrilling win for the Warriors, whose powerful offense was stymied for most of the night.

Reeves was limited to 31 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and went 5-of-12 for 68 yards and two scores — far from the eye-popping numbers he put up the first two weeks — but he picked off a pass at the Whale Branch 10 and returned it to the the 45, then rallied the Warriors for a final drive culminating with the heave into the end zone at the buzzer.

The Bobcats led 20-9 approaching the midway point of the third quarter, but Reeves started the comeback with a TD pass to Amir Jenkins in the back of the end zone to get within a touchdown.

Baptist Hill was able to hold Joseph Hicks to just 4 yards on five carries, while Jadon Grant had a team-best 48 yards on nine attempts and Richard Parker caught two passes for 44 yards.

The Warriors (3-0) can clinch the region title with a win at Cross next Friday.
