Battery Creek volleyball fell to visiting Bishop England 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-18) Thursday night in Region 8-3A play at the Palace.
Laiani McCullough collected a team-high nine kills and Brooke Crosby added five aces for the Dolphins, but Creek couldn’t close out the Battling Bishops despite playing competitively in the last two sets.

Bishop England took an early lead in the first set, going up by as many as six. Battery Creek battled back to within three but the Bishops went on a 4-0 run to take a 14-7, which led to the first BC timeout. A service error and a McCullough kill and block brought the Dolphins back within four, but the Bishops closed out the set with kills from Adry Simmons and Ella Schar.
The two teams exchanged points early on in set No. 2 as neither team could take control of the set. After Myra Smith made an unbelievable save that brought her into the stands, Emonee Johnson finished off the point with the kill, giving Battery Creek its first lead of the night. Bishop England came back with three consecutive points to regain the lead and following two more kills, Creek took its first timeout at 15-10. The Dolphins never wavered though, as Malphrus and McCullough both collected kills bringing the score to within 21-20, and Malphrus and Johnson teamed up for a block to tie the set at 21. Bishop England scored the next four points, though, as Carly Searson served up an ace to end the set.
Stanza No. 3 saw both teams alternate points up until the score tied at six. BEHS rattled off five straight, forcing a BC timeout. The Dolphins used a duo block from McCullough and Smith to get within one. After a rally that lasted nearly a minute, the Bishops collected consecutive points to regain the lead. Battery Creek battled back to within six, but Bishop England recorded an ace to end the match.
Battery Creek continues its homestand on Tuesday against Oceanside Collegiate. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
