HSVB: Warriors split region tri-match

Whale Branch volleyball split a region tri-match Tuesday, falling to powerhouse Palmetto Scholars but sweeping Military Magnet.

The Warriors picked up their first region victory of the season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-6) victory at Cross on Thursday, as Erin Rivers racked up 10 kills to lead the attack, while Jada Jenkins served 11 aces, and Danasia Williams added 10. Williams also had five kills and a team-high 11 assists, and Jada Pryor added four kills. Trinity Heyward, Jahmaisha Green, and Grace Burvenich added three aces apiece, and Heyward had a team-best seven digs.

The competition level jumped up against the Phoenix, who rolled to the sweep to remain undefeated in region play, but Whale Branch bounced back for a 2-0 (25-17, 25-23) win over the Eagles.

Rivers led the way with nine kills and four aces, Layla Love added five kills, and A’Shonna Padgett had four. Green had a team-best 12 assists and two aces, and Heyward added eight digs and four aces.

Whale Branch (2-4, 2-2) hosts a region tri-match with St. John’s and Lowcountry Leadership on Thursday.
