HSVB: Dolphins fend off Rebels to stay undefeated

Hilton Head Prep volleyball continued its red-hot start to the season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 27-25) win over visiting Thomas Heyward on Wednesday.

Madison Denny racked up 15 kills to lead the way for the Dolphins, who improved to 6-0 and still haven’t dropped a set this season. Gracie Palumbo-Alkire added four kills and two blocks, while Haley Majors had four kills. Ella Clark dished out 11 assists to go with six digs and two aces, and Haylee Hopman had a team-high 15 digs.

“Thomas Heyward plays great defense and with one of our key players out we really had to step up,” HHP coach Amber Swisher said. “Madison Denny proved that she could do that.” 

Thomas Heyward setter Amelia Bonds went 14-for-14 serving with four aces, 14 digs, and four assists, while Abby Bennett added 10 assists and seven digs, Sydney Butler had five kills and three blocks, and Brooke Smith and Keleigh Bowers added 15 digs apiece.

The Dolphins (6-0, 1-0) host St. Andrew’s on Thursday, while the Rebels (1-4, 0-1) travel to Colleton Prep for a region match Tuesday.
