In its final game before an extended hiatus, the Hilton Head Christian Academy boys soccer team battled Effingham County on the road Friday night until the lights literally went out in a 2-1 defeat.
The Rebels, assuming it might be the last game of their season, honored three graduating seniors at the start of the match. Playing inspired soccer, Effingham jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first 10 minutes, but the Eagles were able to eventually get their legs going and brought an offensive barrage, capped off by a Cameron Strickland goal.
HHCA kept strong offensive pressure on the Rebels through the end of the first half and into the second, but the lights went out at the 35:36 mark of the half. Both coaches agreed to halt the game, and the Rebels sent their seniors off with a memorable victory.
Hilton Head Christian (1-2) hopes to resume its season on April 3.
