HSGBB: JPII’s furious comeback falls short in quarterfinals

John Paul II’s girls erased most of a 19-point halftime deficit but came up just short Tuesday, falling 57-53 to Palmetto Christian in the SCISA 2A quarterfinals.

Tkai DeVore racked up 32 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, two blocks, and two assists to fuel the comeback, and fellow senior Abby Quinty added 12 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

“We came out playing very nervous, which led to many turnovers and not many shot opportunities,” JPII coach Tkai DeVore said.

The Golden Warriors found their mojo in the second half, using their defense to fuel their offense, as DeVore scored 23 of her 32 after the break. JPII pulled within four before running out of time.

“It’s been a great season, and I’m so proud of these girls,” Floyd said. “They are fighters and have been an absolute joy to coach.”
