Hilton Head Prep’s girls knocked off No. 2 seed Marlboro Academy on Saturday at the Sumter Civic Center, winning 39-24 in the first round of the SCISA 2A state tournament.
HHP played outstanding defense, holding the Dragons to two points in the first quarter and keeping them to single digits in three of the four quarters.
Kierstin Clark led the defense and played a solid game at point guard with five points and five assists, and Maddie Frank stepped up with a big game inside with six points and 10 rebounds. Ella Clark heated up in the second half and finished with 14 points, and Haylee Hopman and Abi Mendoza added five points each.
HHP (12-14) faces top-seeded Oakbrook Prep in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heathwood Hall.
