Hilton Head Christian Academy’s boys couldn’t match Spartanburg Day’s size, falling 56-38 in the first round of the SCISA 2A state tournament Friday at Heathwood Athletic Center in Columbia.
The Eagles were within one after the first period, but the Griffins inched out to a 27-14 halftime lead with big men Will Henderson (20 points) and Charles Richard (19) leading the way.

Led by Floyd Hargrove’s 12 points, the Eagles pulled within 10 with about three minutes left but couldn’t shake out of their offensive struggles, shooting 28 percent from the field. Daniel Harrington added six points, and JP Peduzzi and Andrew Helms had five each for HHCA.
The Eagles finished 12-14 in their first season under coach Travis Priddy.
