The Whale Branch girls earned their first playoff win since 2016 with a 51-47 home victory over 10th-ranked Mullins in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs Tuesday.
The Warriors rallied from a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Auctioneers 19-6 in the final period to avenge last year’s 71-32 loss at Mullins in the first round of the postseason.

Kynew Barnwell scored 18 points and Zhani Thompson added 17 to lead the charge for Whale Branch, while Jazmin Diaz added eight points and Erin Rivers had six.
Whale Branch (19-7) will host Kingstree, which upset Calhoun County 46-34, in the second round Friday.
