Hilton Head High let an early lead slip away, but the Seahawks were able to bounce back to top visiting May River 49-47 on Tuesday to even the score among the teams.
After a defensive battle in the first half, the Seahawks went into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable lead, but they had to fight back in the second half to earn a split of the season series.
“We knew since we played them the first time that we had to come out on defense,” Seahawks standout Gaston Moore said. “I wasn’t satisfied with our defense in the first half but in the second half (I was satisfied).”

After the half, the Sharks came out with a big offensive performance to take the lead in the third quarter and surge past the home team.
“We just (relaxed) a little bit on defense and let them go on a little run,” Sam Summa said, “They got a couple quick buckets in transition…but we ended up correcting it.”
Moore and Adam Clark answered with multiple three-point shots to put the Seahawks back on top toward the end of the fourth period.
“In the fourth quarter we made a run of our own and (were able to) end up with a win,” Summa said
An attempt at a late comeback from the Sharks was unsuccessful and the Seahawks pulled away with the victory led by Summa and Moore who each contributed 12 points. Harry Cash scored 13 points, James Layman had 12, and Brady Harrell added 11 for the Sharks.
Looking toward Beaufort High on Friday night, the game is a must-win for the Seahawks to keep their hopes of a region championship alive.
“We are expecting to see much of the same (competition) that we did tonight,” Summa said, “We are just going to have to show up at practice the next two days, work hard, and prepare for a big game against Beaufort.”
