Hilton Head High’s girls dropped their third straight game Wednesday, losing 34-33 to visiting Wade Hampton after a controversial finish.
The Seahawks held a 33-31 lead in the final seconds, when Wade Hampton broke a timeout huddle with six players on the floor. The ball was put in play before the sixth player left the court, and the Red Devils missed a shot but retained possession, leading to the game-winning 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds left.

By rule, the Red Devils should have been assessed a technical foul, giving the Seahawks two free throws and possession.
Miley Ray scored 18 points to lead the Seahawks, who trailed for most of the game but closed the gap and took the lead with a 17-point fourth quarter.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t defend six players on the last play,” HHIHS coach Sean Rochester said. “But like I told our kids after the game, our own missed shots, turnovers, and missed rebounds put us in that spot and unfortunately there was a missed call.”
