May River’s girls opened region play with a 56-38 home win over Lake Marion on Friday.
The defending region champion Sharks opened up a commanding 14-point halftime lead thanks to Chynna Sneed, who scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the first half, and cruised to the convincing win.

Olivia Peluso added nine points, and Morgan Scott had seven for the Sharks.
Antwanique Walley scored 16 points, and Yasmin Richardson added eight to lead the Gators.
