Each Monday (or Tuesday) throughout the high school boys basketball season, we recognize the standouts from the previous week’s action with the Lowco Boys Basketball Spotlight presented by Hilton Head Insurance & Brokerage.
We select an offensive and defensive player of the week, as well as a Team of the Week, and highlight the biggest game of the upcoming week.
Here’s this week’s installment of the Lowco Boys Basketball Spotlight presented by Hilton Head Insurance & Brokerage.
PRESENTING SPONSOR
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyrone Calloway, HHP
With No. 2 scorer Stone McDonald scratched from the lineup and limited due to a back injury, Calloway put the Dolphins on his shoulders for a big 49-32 win over Beaufort Academy in their only game of the week. The senior point guard poured in 28 points to help the Dolphins open region play on a high note.
Also nominated: CJ Knight, JPII; Nick Pringle, WB; Sam Summa, HHIHS

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jeremiah Young, JPII
The Golden Warriors got after at the defensive end in a 62-32 win over Colleton Prep to open region play, and Young was the leader. The junior guard had a team-high four steals to go with 12 points and gave the Warhawks fits all night.
Also nominated: Shawn Chisolm, WB; Dean Seelbach, HHIHS; Luke Foley, HHP
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Hilton Head Prep Dolphins (1-0 last week, 7-3 overall)
The Dolphins showed they aren’t quite ready to give up the top spot in their region with an impressive 49-32 win over Beaufort Academy on Friday, even with one of their top players limited in action. Holding a talented BA team to 32 points is impressive, especially with Stone McDonald roaming the paint for much of the night.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Bluffton at May River, 7 p.m. Saturday
There are a number of Lowco-on-Lowco matchups this week, including a few crosstown rivalry games, but this one looks to be the most competitive. The Bobcats have won five straight meetings with the Sharks, but they’ve come by a combined 11 points and none has been decided by more than four points. The Bobcats pulled out a 54-52 home win on Dec. 7, so the Sharks will try to flip the script in the The Tank.
