HSGBB: Heyward scores 34 as Bobcats rally for tourney title

Bluffton’s girls rebounded from a disastrous first half to rally for a 58-41 win over host Rock Hill in the championship game of the YC Winborn Holiday Classic on Saturday.

Eighth-grader Tacoya Heyward poured in a school-record 34 points, including 28 in the second half and 15 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Bobcats’ comeback. Heyward also dished out six assists to go with four steals and four rebounds. Tatyana Aiken added 16 points, seven boards, and three steals for Bluffton.

The Bobcats were ice cold to start the game, trailing 14-3 after one quarter and 20-13 at halftime before coming out fired in the second half. Bluffton outscored Rock Hill 24-10 in the third quarter to take the lead, then outpaced the Bearcats 21-11 in the final period.

Aiken was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, and Heyward was picked for the All-Tournament Team.
