HSWR: Sharks rack up 10 pins in win over Seahawks

May River continued to assert its dominance over the Lowco wrestling scene with a 70-6 win over visiting Hilton Head High on Wednesday.

The Sharks scored 10 pins in 14 matches, with Noah Creque, EJ Seman, CJ Ciccarelli, Pat Treacy, Anthony Nelsen, Gabriel Juarez, Wyatt Banfield, Donovan Ling, Anthon Funderburk, and Eli Hall winning by fall.

May River’s Isham Peace won a decision over James Levy at 113 pounds in one of the best matchups of the night. Chad Hadden and Kailin Prescott-Ferguson also earned wins for the Sharks.

“I’m very proud of the effort of our guys tonight,” May River coach Ashley Powell said. “They came out and wrestled really hard. We have to get better in several areas, but overall I’m pleased. Our guys fight and compete and that’s something we take pride in.”

Israel Salmeron notched the Seahawks’ only victory with a pin at 195 pounds as Hilton Head High (5-1) suffered its first dual loss of the season.

“It was a rough night, but we needed that,” HHIHS coach Patrick Boulware said. “Hopefully it was an eye opener to our guys. … Hats off to May River. Big things to come for the Lowcountry with the success they are bringing and what we hope to keep coming for.”
