HSBBB: Home-court advantage not enough for Eagles

The atmosphere in the Eagles Nest was begging for a big win from Beaufort High’s boys Tuesday, but the Eagles didn’t deliver.

Beaufort’s student section — The Kirkland Krazies — were out in force to support the Eagles, but they weren’t enough to stop a dominant Wade Hampton team from claiming a 66-50 victory behind 28 points from Brandon Brantley.

Both teams played tough defense early, but the Red Devils were able to open an 11-point lead after one quarter and extend it to 16 points going into halftime.

The Eagles came out swinging in the third quarter but slowly died down as Wade Hampton hit the offensive boards to produce many second-chance points. Beaufort pulled within 11 early in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles couldn’t get enough defensive stops to close the gap.

Zyrin Odom led the Eagles with 16 points and eight rebounds, Jamaad Rivers scored 12 points, and Ollie Holmes added 11 for Beaufort.
