Each Monday (or Tuesday) throughout the high school boys basketball season, we will recognize the standouts from the previous week’s action.
We will select an offensive and defensive player of the week, as well as a Team of the Week.
Here’s your first installment of the Lowco Boys Basketball Spotlight presented by Hilton Head Insurance & Brokerage.
PRESENTING SPONSOR
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shawn Chisolm, WB
Somewhat overshadowed by teammate Nick Pringle’s explosion on the recruiting scene, Chisolm continues to be a workhorse in the paint for the Warriors. He’s averaging 19.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks through three games, and he came up big in Whale Branch’s only game last week. The senior scored a game-high 21 points, pulled down six boards, and blocked two shots to help the Warriors avenge an earlier loss to Ridgeland-Hardeeville.
Also nominated: Zack Black, THA; Oliver Holmes, BHS; Brandon Trapp, BA; Sam Summa, HHIHS; Amoni Waring, BCHS
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Pringle, WB
Pringle is doing plenty of damage at the offensive end, averaging 14 points through three games, but he’s really making his presence known on defense. The Wofford signee pulled down 10 boards, blocked four shots, and had three deflections and a steal to go along with 15 points in the Warriors’ 68-44 win over Ridgeland-Hardeeville on Friday.
Also nominated: Dawson Coleman, BA; Amoni Waring, BCHS; Sam Summa, HHIHS; Zyrin Odom, BHS
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Beaufort Academy
The Eagles got off to a dominant start last week, winning their first three games by a combined 126 points and claiming the BA Classic title. Dawson Coleman is going to be a problem for opposing teams running the point, and he’s surrounded by capable players such as Elijah Fess, Brandon Trapp, and Thomas Holladay, not to mention eighth-grader Sully Gay, a 6-2 wing the coaching staff is beyond excited about.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Whale Branch at Beaufort High, 7:30 p.m. Friday
The Warriors can already make a case for being the best team in the Lowco, but the Eagles are one of the teams who would like to lay claim to the title. Along with Beaufort’s 44-43 win over Battery Creek and the Warriors’ trip to Creek on Saturday, we’ll have a round-robin to determine the top public school team in northern Beaufort County.
