HSFB: Seahawks sunk in shootout with Wilson

Hilton Head High showed it had the offensive firepower to go toe-to-toe with a top-10 team Friday, but the Seahawks couldn’t come up with enough defensive stops.

Wilson answered every attempt at a Seahawk rally with another scoring drive, holding host HHIHS at bay for a 47-34 victory in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

Gaston Moore and Dean Seelbach hooked up for three touchdown passes, and Will Frith and Moore added touchdown runs to keep the Seahawks in it, but they had no answer for Wilson quarterback Zayshaun Rice.

Rice threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores, and the Tigers scored a defensive touchdown.

The teams traded scores early before Wilson pulled out to a 20-7 halftime lead. The offenses came to life in the second half, but not before the Tigers recovered a Moore fumble in the end zone to make it 27-7.

That hole proved too difficult for the Seahawks to escape, as the teams traded scoring drives the rest of the night.

The Seahawks finish the season with a 5-5 record.
