Hilton Head Christian Academy kept its offensive machine rolling Friday with a 48-6 win at John Paul II.
The Eagles have won eight straight and can finish unbeaten in region play with a home win over rival Hilton Head Prep next week.
Hayden Shinn was 14-of-27 for 310 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, and he added 121 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to lead the Eagles’ explosive offense. Daniel Harrington had seven catches for 187 yards and two scores and added 44 yards and a TD on the ground, and Jace Blackshear had a touchdown reception and returned one of his two interceptions for a score.
It was 14-0 just before halftime when HHCA’s JP Peduzzi forced and recovered a fumble in JPII territory to set up Shinn’s 23-yard strike to Harrington for a 21-0 halftime lead.
Shinn and Harrington hooked up for an 81-yard score to open the second half, and Shinn hit Blackshear for an 11-yard TD to make it 35-0.
JPII got on the board with Jeremiah Young’s 80-yard touchdown pass to Reco Anderson, and Blackshear’s pick-six capped the scoring.
Jackson Lanier had 14 tackle and an interception to anchor a strong defensive effort for HHCA.
Young was 8-for-18 for 159 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions and rushed for 73 yards. Anderson had four catches for 127 yards and a TD and rushed 17 times for 65 yards. Josh Horton had six tackles and Mark Knight had two interceptions to lead JPII’s defense.
The Eagles (8-1, 3-0) host Hilton Head Prep next Friday with the region title in the balance. JPII (0-8, 0-4) travels to Colleton Prep for a non-region game to close out the season.
