In a few hours, we will announce the Week 8 RBC Heritage Player of the Week, but first, we recognize the players who helped their teammates land on the list of nominees with their contributions outside the spotlight.
They are the offensive role players who don’t always put up flashy stats, the defensive stalwarts who get the ball back for the offense, and the special teams standouts whose efforts are too often overlooked.
We call them the Unsung Heroes presented by Candor USA, and here they are for Week 8:
Braydon Dineen, BA — Recorded nine tackles and a fumble recovery in a 61-6 win over Cathedral Academy. Has 24 tackles over the past two games.
Terry Fields, MRHS — North-South selection made 12 tackles along with a pass breakup, forced fumble, punt return touchdown, and a 27-yard reception in a 27-21 loss to Beaufort High.
Shamarr Hamilton, BCHS — Made eight tackles (one for loss) and racked up three sacks in a 6-0 win at Ridgeland-Hardeeville.
Carson King, HHP — Big night all around with six receptions for 75 yards and a TD, 10 rushes for 75 yards and a TD, a 2-point conversion catch, an onside kick recovery, and six tackles on special teams in a 31-22 win over Dorchester Academy.
Jackson Lanier, HHCA — “Bulldog” had 11 tackles (eight solo), a sack, and two key fourth-down stops inside the 10-yard line in the Eagles’ 37-14 win over Colleton Prep.
Dante Parker, WB — Stepped up with six tackles (three for loss) in a 24-0 win over Allendale-Fairfax.
Liam Sirgo, HHCA — Undersized defensive lineman had another solid game with six tackles in a 37-14 win over Colleton Prep.
Jacob Weaver, HHIHS — Seahawks’ kicker was 2-for-2 on PATs, 2-for-3 on field goals with makes of 27 and 42 yards, and averaged 44 yards per punt in a 28-7 win over Colleton County. He also threw a 2-point conversion pass for good measure.
Ellis Williams, BCHS — Made only two tackles but came up with two big plays in the Dolphins’ 6-0 win at Ridgeland-Hardeeville, forcing a fumble and picking off a pass to help preserve the shutout.
Kendrick Williams, BHS — Made four tackles and made an acrobatic catch on an interception that he returned for a touchdown in a 27-21 win over previously undefeated May River.
Alvin Wilson, BHS — Racked up six tackles (two for loss), 1.5 sacks, two QB pressures, and a pass breakup in a 27-21 win over May River.
