HSFB: Seahawks sail past Cougars in region opener

Hilton Head High opened Region 7-4A play with an impressive 28-7 road win over Colleton County on Friday.

Lavarus Brown rushed for 159 yards and a touchdowns, and Jacob Weaver booted field goals of 27 and 42 yards for the Seahawks, whose defense played one of its best games of the season. Gaston Moore was 16-of-19 passing for 163 yards and a touchdown and added 23 yards and a score on six carries.

Brown and Moore each had touchdown runs in the first half to give the Seahawks a 14-7 lead at halftime.

Weaver’s first field goal and Moore’s touchdown pass to Dean Seelbach made it 25-7, and a Christian Miller interception set up Weaver’s second field goal to cap the scoring.

The Seahawks (4-3, 1-0) host Beaufort High next Friday with first place in Region 7-4A on the line.
