Hilton Head Prep’s girls golf team fired a round of 11-under-par 277 on the opening day of the SCISA Girls Golf State Tournament on Monday to open up a commanding lead over the 13-team field.
The Dolphins hold a 61-shot advantage over second-place Cardinal Newman — and the top three spots on the individual leaderboard — going into Tuesday’s final round at The Members Club at Woodcreek outside Columbia.
HHP’s Sophia Burnett sits atop the leaderboard after a blistering round of 65 on Monday, but teammates Mackenzie Gallagher (68) and Maddie Franks (69) aren’t far behind. Camila Burnett (75) is fifth, and Tessa Charest (85) rounded out the Dolphins’ lineup.
Hilton Head Christian Academy shot 492 and is tied for 12th. Rebecca Hubbard led the Eagles with a 108.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
