Thomas Heyward suffered its first regular-season loss since 2017 on Friday, as the Rebels fell in a big hole early and never recovered, losing 55-14 to visiting Trinity-Byrnes in a matchup of SCISA powers.
The Titans jumped on the Rebels early and led 28-0 before JR Patterson’s touchdown run got Thomas Heyward on the board.
A pair of defensive touchdowns helped SCISA 2A No. 2 Trinity-Byrnes pad its lead to 48-8 by halftime, and the Titans tacked on another score to make it 55-8 before Anthony Fripp capped the scoring with a touchdown run.
Patterson finished with 106 yards on 12 carries, Bruzza Pusha had seven catches for 102 yards and caught a two-point conversion pass, and Fripp added 63 yards on five carries. Peyton Bennett was 10-of-15 for 138 yards with two interceptions.
The Rebels (6-1) host Spartanburg Christian for a region matchup next Friday.
