HSVB: THA bests JPII in five sets

Thomas Heyward volleyball outlasted rival John Paul II for a thrilling five-set victory Thursday.

The teams alternated winning the first four sets before the Rebels dominated the fifth set to claim a 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 25-17, 10-25, 15-6) victory. 

THA had several all-around standouts leading the way, as Brooklyn Guardino was 20-for-20 serving with one ace and collected 12 kills and 19 digs, Bayli Belger racked up 15 assists, 21 digs, four kills, and an ace, and Amelia Bonds had 17 digs and 14 assists along with two aces and two kills. Gracie Wade anchored the Rebels’ defense with 36 digs, went 11-for-12 serving, and added 10 kills.

The Rebels (8-13, 1-4) hosts Holy Trinity on Tuesday, after the Golden Warriors host the Lions on Monday.
