Local junior golfers cleaned up at the prestigious Beth Daniel Junior Azalea, which wrapped up Thursday at Country Club of Charleston.
Bluffton’s Sophia Burnett finished second and Hilton Head Island’s Savannah Hylton was third in the girls division. Burnett fired a 2-under-par 69 in the final round to climb to second place, four shots behind champion Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, and one shot clear of Hylton.
Hilton Head’s JT Herman placed second to lead the local contingent in the boys division. Herman fired three rounds in the 60s to finish at 8-under but came up three strokes short of champion Zachary Reuland of Rock Hill. Hilton Head’s Max Green and Bluffton’s Rachata Winwon and Andrew Swanson all tied for 10th at even par.
