Youth Baseball: Bluffton American, Beaufort Win AA Openers

Bluffton American and Beaufort were among the winners on the opening night of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 8 AA Machine Pitch (7-8) Tournament on Friday in Watlerboro.

Bluffton American scored the maximum seven runs in all three innings of a 21-1 rout of Ridgeland. Derek Blesie had two doubles and a home run and drove in four runs to lead Bluffton American. Noah Sepulveda added three hits and two RBIs, Nicholas Carpenter had two hits and three RBIs, and Zack Szypczak, Finn Boyles, Nathan Fulton, and Declan Mitchell each added two hits and two RBIs.

Beaufort held off a fierce sixth-inning rally from Hilton Head to claim a 13-10 victory. Beaufort used a seven-run third to lead 13-3 entering the bottom of the sixth before Hilton Head plated seven runs. 

Landon Davis, William Thompson, and Adam O’Dorazio all hit home runs, and Marshall Rhoten and Reeve Simmons each had three hits and two RBIs to lead Beaufort. 

Kyle Larson and Easton Welker each had two hits and two RBIs to lead Hilton Head, while Miles Chapman added two hits and Jack Cerrati and Lewis Wolf each drove in two runs.

Bluffton National drew a first-round bye and will play at 6 p.m. Saturday against host Colleton County, which defeated Hampton in the first round. Ridgeland and Hilton Head will square off in an elimination game at 6 p.m., while Bluffton American faces Beaufort at 8 p.m.

The winner and runner-up of the double-elimination tournament will earn berths in the state tournament July 6-9 in Florence.
