Youth Baseball: Hilton Head Stays Alive In Minors Tourney

Hilton Head used an eight-run first inning to roll to a 12-2 win over Bluffton National in an elimination game Monday at the Dixie Youth Baseball District 8 Minors (9-10) Tournament at Burton Wells Park in Beaufort.

Grady Cherrington-Dunton’s inside-the-park grand slam capped the big opening frame for Hilton Head, which advances to face Bluffton American in the championship round at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Hilton Head will need to defeat Bluffton American twice to win the district title.

Will Chapman was 2-for-3, Jackson Reilley had a double and an RBI, and Andrew Massey drove in a run for Hilton Head.

Reilley limited Bluffton National to one unearned run over three innings, and Alan Wolf III gave up one run in the fourth to finish off the win. Sam Matejewski had an RBI single, and Oliver Matejewski and Noah Guthrie each added a hit for Bluffton National.

The winner of the double-elimination tournament will earn a berth in the state tournament July 12-18 in Anderson.
