Bluffton American advanced to the championship round and Bluffton National stayed alive Sunday in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 8 Minors (9-10) Tournament at Burton Wells Park in Beaufort.
Bluffton National scored six runs in the first inning and rolled to an 11-0 win over host Beaufort in an elimination game. The early lead was plenty for Oliver Matejewski, who struck out five and allowed three hits in a four-inning shutout.
Elliot Parrott was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scored two runs to lead Bluffton National at the plate, while Brandon Hunter was 3-for-3 with a double.
Bluffton American is the only undefeated team remaining in the bracket after a 7-2 win over Hilton Head. A six-run fourth inning broke the game open for Bluffton American.
Gideon Mobley allowed one run and two hits over three innings of relief to earn the win after starter Kollin Sanchez gave up one run and four hits over three frames.
Logan Cotter was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the leadoff spot, and Colin Budrow was 1-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs to lead Bluffton American’s offense. Ben Elkenberry had a double and Andrew Massey drove in a run for Hilton Head.
Bluffton National will face Hilton Head in an elimination game at 6:30 p.m. Monday with the winner advancing to face Bluffton American in the championship round Tuesday.
The winner of the double-elimination tournament will earn a berth in the state tournament July 12-18 in Anderson.
