Led by three individual champions, two runners-up, and two third-place relay teams, May River’s boys track and field team claimed the first team state championship in the school’s three-year history Saturday in Columbia.
Melvin Livermon (400), DJ Robinson (400 hurdles), and Beau Bischoff (pole vault) all won individual titles to help the Sharks compile 70 points and edge runner-up Keenan by 11. Terry Fields (long jump) and Ridge Dowe (discus) claimed silver, and the Sharks finished third in the 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
The Sharks also had a strong showing on the girls side, racking up 58 points to finish second to Bishop England (73). Emma Peluso led the way for the Sharks, winning the 800 and finishing second in the 1600. Cathryn Roberts (pole vault) and Chynna Sneed (discus) posted runner-up finishes along with the 4×800 relay, and Keelin McAlpine was third in the 400.
Battery Creek’s Jordan Wilson-Smalls placed second in boys high jump, and the Dolphins placed third in the girls 4×100 relay.
