The road to a state championship got a little longer for Hilton Head High’s baseball team after a 5-1 home loss to Midland Valley on Saturday in the second round of the Class 4A Lower State tournament.
The Mustangs outlasted hours of lightning delays and held the Seahawks’ offense at bay, as Brenden Moyer struck out seven and allowed one run over five innings and Seth Richardson finished off Hilton Head High with two scoreless frames.
Matt Mebane had two hits, Stratton Pollitzer had a double, and Kyle Markowitz drove in the only run for the Seahawks. Hunter Julseth took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) over five innings.
The Seahawks (20-9) will host Airport in an elimination game Monday.
