For the second consecutive year, Hilton Head Prep’s boys golf team edged its biggest rival on the biggest stage.
The Dolphins posted a sensational team score of 284 in Tuesday’s final round to erase a six-shot deficit and nip Hilton Head Christian Academy by three shots for a second straight SCISA 2A state championship.
Led by individual medalist J.T. Herman, who posted rounds of 70 and 67 to edge HHCA’s Danny Azallion by one shot, the Dolphins finished with a 36-hole total of 579. HHCA was second at 582, 69 strokes ahead of third-place Palmetto Christian.
Herman had plenty of help during HHP’s dominant second round, as A.J. Gilpin fired a 69, Jump Winwon shot 73, and Mackenzie Gallagher and Camila Burnett each shot 75.
