May River let an early lead slip away in an 11-6 loss to visiting Strom Thurmond on Thursday in the Class 3A District 6 tournament.
The Sharks answered a two-run homer in the top of the first with four runs in the bottom of the frame, but they didn’t generate much offense the rest of the evening. The Rebels took the lead with three runs in the fourth inning and broke it open with four in the fifth.
Kamryn Gleason was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Elijah Peter was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Joseph Tapscott went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Sharks.
Peter was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
The Sharks (14-10) will host Academic Magnet in an elimination game Saturday. The winner will advance to the championship round Monday but will have to defeat Strom Thurmond twice to claim the district title.
