Stratton Pollitzer hit a walk-off grand slam to lift Hilton Head High to a 6-3 win over visiting Aiken in the first round of the Class 4A District 6 tournament Tuesday.
Aiken’s Addam Holsenback shut out the Seahawks for five innings, and the Green Hornets took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. Hilton Head answered in the sixth to tie it on JJ Mlodzinski’s two-run single, but Aiken regained the lead in the bottom of the inning.
The Seahawks loaded the bases with one out in the seventh on Daniel Keber’s single, Colin Gross’ double, and Matt Mebane’s walk, setting up Pollitzer’s heroics.
JR Richardson went the distance on the mound for the Seahawks, allowing three runs (one earned) and six hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
The Seahawks (17-7) will travel to top-seeded North Myrtle Beach for a second-round game Thursday with the winner advancing to the championship round of the double-elimination tournament.
