It’s finally time for the main event, as the 51st RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing tees off Thursday morning at Harbour Town Golf Links. Here’s your primer for the first round.
Featured group (a.m.): We actually have our eye on two morning groups, and they’re conveniently playing back-to-back. The trio of Graeme McDowell, Brandt Snedeker, and Tommy Fleetwood goes off No. 10 at 8 a.m., followed by the threesome of Francesco Molinari, Webb Simpson, and Jordan Spieth at 8:10.
Featured group (p.m.): Once again, two star-studded groups go off in succession, starting with Matt Kuchar, Bryson DeChambeau, and defending champion Satoshi Kodaira on the first tee at 12:40 p.m., followed by Kevin Kisner, Dustin Johnson, and Xander Schauffele at 12:50. Nice.
Dewscrapers: If you’re headed out early Thursday, you’ll be sharing the course with some interesting players, including entertaining Englishman Eddie Pepperell (7:20 a.m., first tee) and South Carolina native and U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover (7:10 a.m., first tee).
Local flavor: If you’re tracking the players with local connections, you can start your day following Heritage Academy/IJGA alumnus Morgan Hoffmann (8:40 a.m., first tee) and Beaufort’s Mark Anderson (8:50 a.m., first tee) and pick up former Hilton Head Island resident D.J. Trahan (1:30 p.m., 10th tee) in the afternoon.
Weather: It’s shaping up to be a Chamber of Commerce day for the first round, with plenty of sunshine and a high in the upper-70s. The wind is supposed to kick up Friday morning with severe weather expected later in the afternoon.
