Hilton Head High picked up a big region win on the road Monday, rallying for a 3-2 victory at Colleton County.
The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, but JJ Mlodzinski and Stratton Pollitzer delivered RBI singles in the fourth to pull the Seahawks even. Hilton Head broke the tie when Cole DeMarzo tripled leading off the fifth and scored on Matt Mebane’s two-out RBI single.
Mlodzinski settled in and struck out 10, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk in a complete game. The Cougars had two on in the fifth, but Mlodzinski recorded a strikeout to get out of the jam and retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh.
Pollitzer was 2-for-3 with an RBI, JR Richardson was 2-for-3, and Mebane and Mlodzinski each had a hit and an RBI for Hilton Head.
The Seahawks (9-4, 2-2) host the Cougars on Wednesday for the second game of the three-game Region 7-4A series.
