Hilton Head Prep stayed perfect in region play with a 5-1 home win over rival Hilton Head Christian Academy on Monday.
The Dolphins grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Eagles loaded the bases with no outs in the second, prompting HHP to bring on Luke Foley in relief of starter Connor McConnell.
Foley worked out of the jam, allowing only one of the inherited runners to score, and shut out the Eagles the rest of the way, striking out four and limiting the Eagles to two hits and one walk over six scoreless innings.
Gage Hurlbut was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Trevor Weldon was 1-for-2 with a double and scored a run for the Dolphins.
“Heck of a team win today,” HHP coach Chris Wells said. “We had our best defensive game of the year and Luke did what he does best, pound the strike zone. Playing a clean game against our rival just feels extra special.”
Reese Malon was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) and four hits over three innings.
Dargan Cherry was 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases for the Eagles.
HHP (9-1, 5-0) travels to Thomas Heyward for another key region game Friday. HHCA (3-7, 0-5) hosts Delaware Christian on Thursday.
