A four-run sixth inning lifted John Paul II to a 6-2 road win over Hilton Head Christian Academy on Tuesday.
Colin Doering went 2-for-3 with three RBIs — including a tie-breaking two-run single in the sixth — to lead the Golden Warriors at the plate.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first, but JPII’s Ray Johnson settled in and shut out HHCA the rest of the way, striking out 10 and walking two while allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits.
Hayden Jennings also had two hits, and Josh Horton scored two runs and drove in one for JPII.
Daniel Harrington was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Max Lowrey and Dargan Cherry each had a hit and scored a run for the Eagles. Reese Malon was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs — one earned) over 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts.
JPII (2-1, 1-0) travels to Hilton Head Prep on Wednesday. HHCA (3-4, 0-3) travels to Frederica Academy on Thursday.
