Hilton Head Prep suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, losing 11-6 to visiting Augusta Christian.
The Dolphins got out to a 4-0 lead after two innings before the Lions scored three in the third and two in the fourth and broke it open with a pair of three-run innings in the sixth and seventh.
“We really made it hard on ourselves to compete with a tough opponent today. Walks and errors were our downfall,” HHP coach Chris Wells said. “We’ve got to clean that up and become a more consistent team to get to where we want to be. This is one of those gut-check moments in our season.”
Connor McDonnell took the loss in relief, allowing eight runs (four earned) in 3 1/3 innings with seven walks.
Gage Hurlbut was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs, two RBIs, and two stolen bases to lead the Dolphins’ offense. Harrison Booker went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and three runs for the Lions.
HHP (4-1) hosts Memorial Day on Tuesday.
