Hilton Head Prep opened its baseball season with a 13-2 home win over Coastal Homeschool on Tuesday.
The Hurricanes scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but the Dolphins answered with seven in the bottom of the inning. Gage Hurlbut had a double, and RBI, and scored three runs and Luke Foley added two hits and scored twice to pace the HHP offense.
Tommy Stauffer struck out eight and did not allow an earned run over three innings to earn the win, and Jaiden Hrobar and Foley each pitched an inning in relief.
“The fellas showed some nerves early but once they settled in they played a solid game behind outstanding pitching,” HHP coach Chris Wells said. “Tommy, Jaiden and Luke were in control on the mound today. When your arms throw it like that we like our chances.”
The teams meet again Thursday at Coastal.
