HSBB: RHHS Girls Can’t Finish Comeback After Westbrook Injury

Ridgeland-Hardeeville’s girls couldn’t overcome losing All-State forward Marlaysia Westbrook to a knee injury in the first quarter, losing 40-30 at Swansea in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs Thursday.

The Tigers used a 15-0 run to start the second quarter to build a 16-point lead, and had a 23-8 halftime advantage before the Jaguars began chipping away.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Kendalyesha Washington and Shanteria Brown pulled RHHS within 29-26 with less than five minutes remaining, but that was as close as the Jaguars could get as the Tigers avenged last year’s loss in the Lower State championship game.

Brown scored 11 points and Washington and Deasia Mikell added six apiece to lead the Jaguars. Lauryn Robinson scored 15 points and Clemson signee Danae McNeal added 14 for Swansea.
