The first day of the NCAA’s early signing period for football was mostly quiet across the Lowcountry on Wednesday, but it was a big day for two Whale Branch stars.
Running back Irvin Mulligan and defensive back Jaheem Hazel made good on their verbal commitments by signing letters of intent to attend Wofford on full scholarships next year. Mulligan and Hazel both signed on Wednesday, but they celebrated the occasion at a ceremony at the school Thursday.
Mulligan rushed for 1,316 yards and 20 touchdowns this season for the Warriors and earned Region 5-2A Co-Running Back of the Year honors. Hazel collected 42 tackles, eight pass break-ups, one forced fumble, and one interception despite rarely being tested by opposing quarterbacks during his senior campaign, and was named the Region 5-2A Defensive Back of the Year.
