Hilton Head High’s girls survived a poor shooting night and a late surge from visiting Whale Branch to hold on for a 30-27 win in their season opener Tuesday.
After missing the entire preseason due to injury, Miley Ray had a team-high 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Seahawks. Trinity Feltner added eight points, and Chyna Fields had 7 rebounds and 5 steals in her first varsity start for HHIHS.
TyNaysia Evans led the Warriors with seven points and five assists. Jazmin Diaz and D’Shanta Gant added five points apiece.
The Seahawks (1-0) host May River at 6 p.m. Friday. The Warriors (0-1) travel to Ridgeland-Hardeeville on Friday.
