We had an impressive collection of nominees for our final RBC Heritage Player of the Week award of the season, including a kicker, but we didn’t need to tell you that.
It’s obvious that not only were you aware that a kicker was on the ballot, but you were about that life. Bluffton’s Evan Hayes ran away with the fan vote after going 2-for-2 on PATs and 3-for-3 on field goals in the Bobcats’ 29-18 win over Hilton Head High last Friday.
While that performance indeed was impressive, our panel was feeling the love for Ridgeland-Hardeeville after the Jaguars’ 40-18 win over Lake Marion to clinch a playoff spot. Two Jaguar teammates split our four votes, with Jertaveon Smalls and Brandon Howard picking up two votes apiece. That meant the fan vote was the tiebreaker, and Smalls edged his teammate for the title.
It’s a well-deserved win for Smalls, who passed for 112 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns, and had two interceptions on defense – one of which he returned for a touchdown. That’s big time.
