HSFB: The Week 5 RBC Heritage Player of the Week Is …

The voting for the RBC Heritage Player of the Week has once again revealed the power of the people.

Two star running backs — and previous Player of the Week honorees — split the votes from our four-person panel, while a two-way standout earned the fifth vote via the fan vote.

As stated out the outset of the season, in the event of a tie, the tie would be broken based on the fan vote, so your votes loomed large for the second consecutive week.

John Paul II’s Melik Frost (28.53%) won the fan vote by a narrow margin over Beaufort Academy’s De’Shaun Epps (24.71%).

Epps and Whale Branch’s Irvin Mulligan each picked up two votes from the panel (with Mulligan earning my vote), but Epps more than doubled Mulligan’s share of the fan vote, making the BA star the RBC Heritage Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Epps certainly is a worthy winner, as he racked up 301 rushing yards and five touchdowns on just 11 carries in the Eagles’ 60-14 win over Faith/Ridge Christian on Friday.

Can Epps make it three in a row? We’ll find out next week.

  1. Have you done an article for the unsung heroes yet? I enjoy those just as much as the player of the week article’s.

    1. I have not. Running behind this week due to other commitments and since the POW is sponsored and Unsung Heroes is not, it takes precedent. Trying to get to it today.
