HSFB: Pusha Shines As Rebels Roll Past JPII

Thomas Heyward continued its undefeated start with a 56-19 rout of visiting John Paul II on Friday.

Trey Pusha scored touchdowns three different ways for the second consecutive game — opening the scoring on a 72-yard kickoff return and adding a 50-yard punt return and a 46-yard TD reception — to lead the Rebels.

Bobby Payne added a pair of rushing touchdowns, and River Pender and J.R. Patterson also scored on the ground for THA, and Jake Masters and Chipper Hammond connected for a touchdown pass.

THA’s defense limited JPII star Zach Doe to 57 rushing yards and one touchdown and forced six turnovers. Melik Frost and Freddie Aiken also scored rushing touchdowns for the Golden Warriors.

The Rebels (3-0) open region play next Friday at Colleton Prep, while the Golden Warriors (0-2) travel to St. Andrew’s.
