Golf: Orischak Medals, 12 Locals Qualify For SCGA Amateur Championship

Hilton Head Island’s Andrew Orischak claimed medalist honors to lead a group of 12 Beaufort County golfers who qualified for the 87th SCGA Amateur Championship on Monday at The Legends at Parris Island.

Orischak and Bluffton’s Charlie Spencer-White each shot 4-under-par 68, with Orischak earning medalist honors in a scorecard playoff. Former USCB golfers Chandler McDonald (Greenville) and Travis Cashion (Columbia) were among three players tied for third at 2-under 70.

Hilton Head’s Jake Williams and Christian Garruppo tied for sixth at 1-under, while Turner Wegener and Matthew Campbell of Beaufort and Connor Moore and Tony Nimmer of Bluffton tied for eighth at even par. Beaufort’s Keaton Butler was 13th at 1-over, and Bluffton’s Chandler Vilcheck, Hilton Head’s Nick Russell, and Beaufort’s Chris Jones all tied for 14th at 2-over to claim the last qualifying spots.

The SCGA Amateur Championship will be played August 2-5 at Dataw Island Club.
