Bluffton American completed a perfect run through the Dixie Youth Baseball Minors (9-10) District 8 tournament with a 16-6 win over Hilton Head in the championship game Sunday in Walterboro.
The Bluffton all-stars got off to a hot start with six runs in the first and four in the second to take control. Hilton Head pulled within 10-6 with a five-run third, but Bluffton answered with five in the bottom of the inning and clinched the championship by invoking the 10-run rule with a run in the fourth.
Bradley Robbins was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and four RBIs, and Archer Dewig was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs to lead Bluffton American’s balanced attack. Roman Colella was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Max Van Esselstyn, Ryan Goll, and Tyler Wolfe all added two hits and two RBIs.
Van Esselsyyn pitched three innings to earn the win, allowing six runs — only one earned — and striking out four.
Jackson Reilley was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Tyler Britschge was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs for Hilton Head.
Bluffton American advances to the state tournament July 14-18 in Moncks Corner.
